Introduction
Background
Skin is often known as "the largest organ of the human body".
Dermatological problems are frequent presenting complaints of
patients and many systemic diseases have cutaneous manifestations.
The Division of Dermatology was established in 2000 to improve
the dermatological care in tertiary referral centre of the Hong
Kong West Cluster.
Mission
The mission is to promote healthier skin condition for all and
an improved quality of life for skin disease sufferers. To accomplish
this mission, the Division has the following objectives:
• Promote
basic knowledge on general skin health and protection
• Provide diagnosis and treatment to dermatological patients
• Conduct evidence-based research in order to find out the
most optimum treatment methods for patients
• Initiate collaborative programmes for dermatology studies
and researches in and outside Hong Kong
• Provide training for medical and allied health professionals
in the field of dermatology
• Conduct scientific meetings and courses for information
exchange and update

Scientific Activities
1/ Certificate Course in Clinical Dermatology (Oct - Dec
2008)
Jointly organized by the Family Medicine Unit and Division of
Dermatology, Department of Medicine, The University of Hong Kong,
the Certificate Course in Clinical Dermatology aims to upgrade
health care professionals' knowledge and skills in the care of
the patients with dermatological problems. The Course is held
every 2 years and comprises 10 seminars to be conducted by specialists
in dermatology, plastic surgery, paediatrics and microbiology
using a problem-oriented approach.
“Certificate
in Clinical Dermatology” will be awarded to the candidates
who enroll in the full course, and accreditations for CME points
will be applied to the respective Colleges. For more information,

3rd Regional Conference in Dermatological Laser and Facial Cosmetic
Surgery 2008 (26-28 September 2008)
Jointly organized with the Hong Kong Society of Dermatology and
Venereology, the Hong Kong Society of Plastic, Reconstructive
and Aesthetic Surgeons and the Hong Kong Association of Specialists
in Dermatology, the Conference aims to provide a forum for exchange
of views on hot topics on the development of dermatological laser
and facial cosmetic surgery. It also provides an opportunity for
participants Asia-Pacific region to share their ideas and expertise,
to explore new approaches in laser and cosmetic surgery. We got
a renowned panel of 71 faculty members. The conference was well
attended by 290 participants, 115 of them were going from overseas.
