Tung Wah Hospital / Maclehose Medical Rehabilitation Centre
The
department has been in charge of 250 beds at Tung Wah Hospital
for convalescent, rehabilitation as well as subacute clinical
admissions dedicated to teaching of dental students. With the
integration of Medical Services, a total of 430 beds is available.
Besides chronic renal supportive therapy and the stroke unit,
the hospital has also developed cardiac, pulmonary, and renal
rehabilitation programme. A Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine
was appointed in July 1994 to strengthen this aspect of the clinical
activity. It continues to receive patients from QMH after the
acute episode and has catered for the requirement of previous
GMU, QMH.
A
12-bed Geriatric RehabilitationWard starts provides geriatric
inpatient rehabilitation service from mid-2002. A Geriatric Day
Hospital also starts to provide day rehabilitation service to
geriatric patients from Dec. 2003 onwards. A team of five Specialists
in Geriatric Medicine in the Hong Kong West Cluster (QMH/FYKH/TWH/GH)
serves by rotation in TWH. An Associate Consultant and one Resident
provides clinical care to the patients. The Resident rotates through
the Basic Physician Training and Higher Physician Training in
Geriatric Medicine in the networked hospitals to receive training
under the overall supervision of the Cluster COS (Medicine) of
HK West.

Grantham Hospital
The
45-bed Cardiac Medical Unit caters for pre- and postoperative
care for Cardiac Surgery. With the advances of interventional
medical Cardiology, there is an increasing demand for Medical
Cardiac service. The Cardiac Catheterization laboratory was upgraded
in 1994. Better co-ordination and integration have developed with
the Cardiac Service at QMH.
The
40-bed Convalescent Medical Unit for patients from Department
of Medicine, Queen Mary Hospital is developing links with the
Tuberculosis and Chest Units in the hospital and the active Pulmonary
Rehabilitation Programme has been implemented.
A
38-bed Geriatric Ward starts provision of geriatric inpatient
service from 5 Feb 2004 onwards. A team of five Specialists in
Geriatric Medicine in the Hong Kong West Cluster (QMH/FYKH/TWH/GH)
serves by rotation in GH. One Associate Consultant and two Residents
provide clinical care to the patients. The Residents rotate through
the Basic Physician Training and Higher Physician Training in
Geriatric Medicine in the networked hospitals to receive training
under the overall supervision of the Cluster COS (Medicine) of
HK West.

Fung Yiu King Hospital
This
was one of the convalescent, rehabilitation and long stay hospital
under the auspices of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. It has been
accepting patients from the Department of Medicine for many years.
At
present there are 80 beds for medical/geriatric convalescence,
24 beds for geriatric inpatient rehabilitation and 80 infirmary
beds for long-stay care as well as a 22-place Geriatric Day Hospital
for day rehabilitation purpose. A Community Geriatric Service
supports the geriatric care for old aged homes in the Central,
Western and Southern Districts of Hong Kong Island.
A team of five Specialists in Geriatric Medicine in the Hong Kong
West Cluster (QMH/FYKH/TWH/GH) serves by rotation in FYKH. One
Consultant, one Associate Consultant and 5 Residents provide clinical
care to the patients. The Residents rotates through the Basic
Physician Training and Higher Physician Training in Geriatric
Medicine in the networked hospitals to receive training under
the overall supervision of the Cluster COS (Medicine) of HK West.
Bedside teaching for medical and dental students are also conducted
in FYKH.
