Introduction
This course aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of primary care doctors on diagnosis and treatment of common medical conditions with an emphasis on therapeutics and long term follow up in primary care setting; by presenting information on internal medicine that is practical, concise and relevant, highlighting new approaches and directions for patient management; utilizing whole class lectures, interactive workshops, case based presentations and discussions; prescribed self-learning reading and multimedia video; and practical clinical attachments; with English as the medium of instruction. It will also provide a good opportunity for participants to interface and liaise with different specialists in internal medicine.

A 2 years part-time program with 12 modules of academic study; comprising of three 4 hour sessions, 2 hours of clinical attachment and satisfactory performance of one from five MCQ question assessment. As well as completion of a 3,000 to 3,500 word written assessment.

  • To promote the practice of internal medicine among primary care / family doctors and trainees in Family Medicine
  • To equip them with updated information on common medical conditions
  • To provide them with skills in the diagnosis of these conditions
  • To improve their confidence in long-term management strategies
  • To present information on internal medicine that is practical, concise and relevant
  • To appreciate the interdisciplinary nature of internal medicine
  • To emphasize the gate-keeper / first-point-of-contact role of these doctors
  • To foster and strengthen collaboration links between primary and specialist care
  • To cultivate a culture of continuing to pursue developments with consequences for diagnosis and therapeutics
